The Rosette Nebula in the constellation Monoceros, or the Unicorn captured by NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), tells a unique story in the universe as we greet #FirstSpringDay. This cosmic beauty is the Rosette Nebula, a massive cloud of dust and gas located 4500 to 5000 light years from our Milky Way galaxy.
In this nebula, at the heart of the flower, is a cluster of young stars. These stars emit large amounts of ultraviolet radiation and blow strong winds that affect the surrounding gas and dust, creating a large hole in the centre.
Although the Rosette Nebula is so faint that it is barely noticeable to the naked eye, it can be seen through a small telescope or good binoculars. For this reason, it is followed with great interest by amateur astronomers.
In the image, the nebula glows with green dust clouds around its red centre. The stars in the scene adorn the landscape with vivid blue and orange hues.
