A PAIR OF STARS THAT CAN'T GET AWAY FROM EACH OTHER

At the centre of the nebula NGC 2346 is a pair of stars so close together that they orbit each other every 16 days!
This Hubble classic shows the dying "last gasp" of this binary star system. NGC 2346 is located about 2000 light years away in the constellation Monoceros.

Image description:

A two-lobed gas structure is expanding outwards from a central pinkish region that almost looks like dark red and orange wings. The black background of space is dotted with some small stars.

Aren't they like two lovers who look like wings?
