The thin, spider web-like filaments seen in this image clearly show why we call this cosmic structure the Tarantula Nebula!
This #HubbleClassic image shows just a small part of the expanding star formation region. Located about 170,000 light-years away, the Tarantula Nebula lies within the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small satellite galaxy orbiting the Milky Way Galaxy.
Home to some of the most massive stars ever observed, the Tarantula Nebula is also known as 30 Doradus and Caldwell 103.

Orange-white and bluish-white stars fill the black background of space. Light blue clouds and denser white clouds are visible throughout the image.
