On Saturday 28 October, the full moon in the sky was a full hunter's moon. The full hunter's moon was accompanied by Jupiter. Jupiter appeared on the lower left side, and it was a perfect image for skywatchers to watch from all over the world.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the earliest written use of the term "Hunter's Moon" dates from 1710. The full moon of October has many other names: The Algonquin tribes of the northeastern United States called it the Dying Grass Moon, the Travelling Moon, and the Blood Moon or Sanguine Moon because of the fall of leaves in autumn.
Image description:
The full moon was captured by an ISS crew member as the International Space Station orbited 253 miles (405 km) above the Indian Ocean. The moon appears bright grey in the upper left part of the photo, surrounded by the darkness of space. The Earth and its atmosphere appear in shades of blue, extending from the lower centre to the upper left corner of the image. White and grey clouds cover the Earth's surface.
