Where does the stream of dark dust in the Hunter Nebula come from?
This region of the Molecular Cloud Complex, known as M43, is a frequently observed neighbor, but often overshadowed by M42. M42, part of which can be seen in the upper right, hosts the bright stars in the Trapezium star cluster. M43, on the other hand, is a star-forming region characterized by complex dark dust flows. But most of its structure is made up of bright hydrogen gas. The Hunter (Orion) region is about 1600 light years from Earth. This impressive dark dust forms in the outer layers of giant cold stars and is blown out into space by powerful stellar winds of protons and electrons.
