The bright spiral galaxy NGC 5460 glows 60 million light-years away.
In this new #HubbleFriday image, the galaxy's central bar of stars, twisting spiral arms and bright blue star clusters are clearly visible.
In the upper left corner, a much closer object stands out: A star in our own galaxy, just 577 light-years from Earth.
Image description:
A spiral galaxy seen close to the surface. The center of its disk is a bright, faint yellowish oval. Spiral arms extend irregularly from either side of the oval into the disk. The arms contain bright bluish-white starspots that show their width. Distant background galaxies appear as small orangish blobs around the spiral galaxy. In the upper left corner, a nearby star shines brightly, with diffraction spikes radiating from it.
