NASA made a statement; there may be life on the south of the Moon.
Previously, researchers found that a bacterium called "Deinococcus Radiodurans" survived for a year outside the International Space Station. "We are currently working to understand which organisms might be best suited to survive in such regions," Saxena said.
According to Saxena, if these microbes exist on the Moon, they probably traveled from Earth during a lunar landing mission. Even if there are no microbes on the Moon right now, they will start to exist if humans start roaming the lunar surface. This means that microbes could not only survive in these craters, but could also potentially grow and thrive.
The Moon's South Pole has received a lot of attention in recent years as it is where NASA hopes to land Artemis III astronauts in 2025. NASA has identified 13 potential landing sites in this region. So far, no human has ever set foot on the Moon's South Pole. However, some craters there are known to contain ice.
