In the new Hubble image, bright blue star-forming clusters and red regions of hydrogen glow among dark dust lanes in the galaxy NGC 4536.
Located about 50 million light-years away, NGC 4536 is known as a “starburst” galaxy because it produces new stars at a great rate by rapidly consuming gas.
This image is part of a new series of images compiled from archival Hubble data.
Image description: The core of a spiral galaxy glows golden. Pink ionized hydrogen clumps and blue star clusters, as well as dark dust lanes, can be seen in the arms.
