Venus is our closest neighboring planet. Located in the inner Solar System, Venus is made of the same materials as Earth and has a similar size and structure. However, the two planets parted ways many, many years ago. The atmosphere of Venus, covered in thick clouds, is composed of sulfuric acid and carbon dioxide, which causes a runaway greenhouse effect on the planet. As a result, Venus' surface is one of the hottest in the Solar System at 900ºF (475ºC) and can even melt lead.
Image Description:
The Mariner 10 spacecraft took several images to create this view of Venus. The planet is almost completely visible, with the right side disappearing into the darkness of space.
Do you think this cottony structure could be Earth's twin?
