This Hubble Space Telescope image shows the magnificent spiral galaxy MCG-01-24-014, located 275 million light years away. I couldn't resist posting the caption when I saw its glittering image.
It hosts a highly energetic nucleus known as the active galactic nucleus.
Image description:
A spiral galaxy. It is seen almost circular and face-on, with two prominent spiral arms emerging from a glowing core. It is placed in the centre of the frame like a portrait. Most of the background is black, with only small, distant galaxies, but in the foreground just above the galaxy are two large bright stars, one blue and one red.
