SHOWING STAR FORMATION: H-ALPHA REGION

Observed by the orbiting NASA Hubble telescope, this spiral galaxy is located 45 million light-years from Earth. The pink regions seen between the spiral arms of the galaxy represent “H-alpha regions”, indicative of nebulae where new stars are born.

Since its launch in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope has been studying the universe from low Earth orbit. From analyzing the atmospheric structure of planets around other stars to the discovery of dark energy, Hubble has transformed humanity's understanding of the universe.
