The civilian space company SpaceX, of which Elon Musk is the founder and CEO, started an era that will carry humanity into space. While rockets that managed to land back to Earth after launch have now become a standard, SpaceX's eyes have been elsewhere for many years.
Sharing Elon Musk's vision of transporting humanity to Mars, the company has been developing its huge rocket called 'Starship' for years to achieve this goal. The Starship rocket, which has been tested for a long time, came to the end of its test stages yesterday. The rocket's first orbital flight test was scheduled for yesterday.
The Starship launch was canceled 40 seconds before launch. It was shared that the launch can be made again after 48 hours at the earliest. The rocket was expected to be launched between 16.00-17.30. The reason for the postponement has not been shared yet.
"A pressurant valve appears to be frozen, so unless it starts operating soon, no launch today"
The 120-meter Starship is a vehicle that can carry both cargo and people. The most important feature is that it is completely reusable. SpaceX says that the vehicle will enable humanity to return to the Moon, and that it will help travel to Mars and beyond in the future. The first layer of the two-layer vehicle consists of the Super Heavy rocket, and the second layer consists of the Starship spacecraft.
Today's flight, which will be the first test of Starship into space, is scheduled to take almost 90 minutes. The Starship spacecraft is scheduled to make a full circle around the Earth.
However, the Booster 7 and the Super Heavy rocket, codenamed Ship 24, to be used in the flight, and the Starship spacecraft will not perform any missions in this flight. While normally both fragments are scheduled to re-land to Earth, in this mission the vehicles will be deliberately dropped into the ocean.
During the flight, it will be aimed to collect as much data as possible from the vehicles. The collected data will be critical for the healthiest manned missions in the coming years.
NASA had chosen Starship to carry astronauts to the Moon in the Artemis III mission to be held in late 2025. For the Moon mission to be held in November 2024, he chose his own rocket SLS. Let's remind you that Starship is both bigger and stronger than SLS.
