The US Congress held a public hearing on the mysterious phenomena known as "unidentified flying objects" (UFOs) and "unidentified aerial phenomena" (UAPs).
At the hearing held on Wednesday (26 July) US time, 3 intelligence officials who served in the military testified as witnesses and made resounding claims.
One of the allegations was that the United States had collected UFO remains and that one of these objects contained "components of organic life not belonging to humans". The claim came from David Grusch, who worked as an intelligence officer for 14 years.
Grusch claimed that the US has a debris collection programme involving unidentified objects and that this programme has been going on for decades.
The former intelligence officer has long been dubbed the "UFO whistleblower" in the world press. Since June, Grusch has been claiming that the US administration has withheld evidence of "non-human-made" craft from Congress.
However, the former intelligence officer says he has never seen evidence of extraterrestrials in person, but has spoken to enough members of the programme to believe that they are real.
Grusch also says that he conducted UAP analyses under the Pentagon until 2023, but was denied access to the government's secret UFO programmes.
Claiming that he faced "very brutal" reprisals following his revelations, Grusch claimed that some people were "harmed and injured" in the government's efforts to conceal information about UFOs.
Republican Congressman Tim Burchett asked the whistleblower if he had any personal knowledge of individuals harmed or injured in efforts to cover up or conceal extraterrestrial technology. Grusch responded, "Yes."
Burchett also asked Grusch if he had ever heard of anyone being killed. The witness replied, "I have referred people with this information to the relevant authorities."
Making a statement after Grusch's testimony at the Congressional hearing, Pentagon officials denied the allegations.
"There is no verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programme for the possession of extraterrestrial materials has existed in the past or currently exists," the statement said.
Some commentators were not convinced by Grusch's statements and questioned his behaviour in Congress. Prior to this hearing, the whistleblower had been more outspoken in interviews with media organisations.
In an interview with NewsNation in June, for example, he claimed that the government had captured an alien craft "the size of a football field". In another interview with the French newspaper Le Parisien, he claimed that the authorities had a bell-like spacecraft.
However, he did not want to go into the details of these allegations, citing security reasons during the session in Congress.
Did you believe Grusch's claims? I actually want to believe Grusch because I am very curious about such subjects and I absolutely believe in their existence. But his claims seemed a little unfounded to me. Because he has never actually seen any evidence alive. He only puts forward these claims based on the statements of others. I think I would have been more easily convinced if someone from the inside had put forward these claims. What do you think?
