An interesting event in the Derveze district of Ahal province in Turkmenistan amazes those who see it because this pit is constantly on fire! This pit in the Karakum Desert is called "Hell's Gate". Hell's Gate is big enough to astonish those who see it.
The Gate of Hell makes people shudder with its appearance and size. With a width of 60 meters and a depth of 25 meters, the constantly burning crater has a very impressive appearance.
A drilling operation in the area in 1971 goes awry, and a collapse of the drill releases a gas believed to be toxic. In order to reduce the effects of the gas in a short time, the team decides to ignite the gas, thinking that it will run out anyway, and the gas in the dent is burned.
Although there is debate about how it came to be, one thing is certain, that the Gate of Hell could never be extinguished.
There were several attempts by the Turkmenistan state to close the crater and extinguishing efforts. But since 1971, Hell's Gate has been burning for over 50 years!
The sounds of the flames burning constantly inside the pit are so loud that you can hear the sounds hundreds of meters away. The impact area of the crater is quite wide. Even under normal conditions, one should not get too close, but being around the crater in windy weather is very dangerous.
