Many of the diamonds have been called unlucky. It is believed that the person who gets the diamonds is dragged into disaster. One of these ominous diamonds is the 'Blue Diamond', which is our topic today. It is also known as the 'Apple of Hope' because of a person who holds the Blue Diamond.
Blue Diamond, which is 119.5 carats, was brought to Europe by a French traveler named Jean Tavernier in 1642. Tavernier got this diamond from the Buddha statue in India.
An Indian priest tells Tavernier that taking the diamond will bring him bad luck. Tavernier sells the Blue Diamond to King Louis XIV of France. Later, in Spain, dogs smash Tavernier.
King of France, Louis XVI, presents the diamond to his wife, Marie Antoinette, and nothing happens to her.
In 1830, Daniel Elias sells the diamond to Banker Hope for 200,000. Soon after receiving the Blue Diamond, Hope goes bankrupt and dies of insanity.
Russian prince Kanitovsky does not believe the rumors and buys the diamond. He presents it to a noble woman who is one of his favorites. Soon after, they kill the woman with a knife.
The next owner of the diamond, the Greek Simon Monkaricies, sells the diamond to Sultan Abdülhamit at a high price. But again soon, the Greek Simon crashes with his wife and son and dies. The Blue Diamond, which travels from hand to hand in this way and creates a chain of bad luck, is exhibited in a museum in America today.
