In June 1947, an S.O.S call from the Straits of Malacca, off Sumatra, Indonesia, was the first step in a great mystery. A two-part message was sent from the Dutch-flagged SS Ourang Medan. The first part of the message was: “All the officers, including the captain, died lying on the map room and bridge. Probably the whole crew is dead.”

Receiving the message from the SS Ourang Medan ship, the Silver Star ship could not make sense of the message. They determined the final position of the ship and set off. But they were about 19 hours away.

The second encrypted message came in while the Silver Star was en route to SS Ourang Medan. The message was short but clear: "I'm dying." After 50 miles, the Silver Star arrived aboard the SS Ourang Medan. The ship received no external damage. The Silver Star crew, who boarded the ship with no signs of life, were shocked by what they saw. Everyone on board was facing the sun. They had expressions of fear on their faces and they were dead. It was reflected in the coast guard reports as "their frozen faces were turned to the sun, they were scared, their mouths were open and their eyes were looking".

 

The Silver Star crew surveyed the ship; There was no sign of life on board. Even the dog on board was stiff and dead. None of the 22 crew members were alive. They were all dead where they were.

Although it was June, it was cold weather on board the SS Ourang Medan. The crew of the Silver Star ship decided to tow the ship into port for further inspection. The preparations had begun when the ship caught fire with the smoke coming from the hold. There was a very violent explosion.

There was no blood or injury in the death on board. There were only faces and corpses stiff with fear. With the big explosion that followed, it left many claims behind. Let's take a look at some of these theories.

THE THEORY THAT THE SHIP NEVER EXISTED

The ship SS Ourang Medan was officially owned by Lloyds Shipping. However, no ties to the company were found in the researches. More interestingly, there was no evidence that the ship sank. THE THEORY OF THE SHIP CARRYING LEAKED CHEMICALS

This is the strongest theory among the theories. The ship was allegedly carrying cyanide and nitroglycerin illegally. For this reason, it was thought that the crew was poisoned and that the explosion was caused by the leaking gases.

Three weeks after the explosion, the ship's missing lifeboat crashed ashore and the ship's second officer, Jerry Rabbit, was proof of this theory. According to Jerry; There was a leak on the ship. The first captain continued the journey without reporting this leak. Second Officer Jerry set out with his lifeboat, taking 7 people and the ship's paperwork with him. Six men died during the voyage, and Jerry died 3 days after landing.

This theory was left with question marks as it could not be solved how the people on the deck were poisoned in the open air.

ALLEGED THAT THE POSITION IS THE DEVIL'S TRIANGLE

In 2014, a Malaysian Airlines plane disappeared on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. It was claimed that this place was the devil's triangle, since the place where the plane disappeared and the SS Ourang Medan ship were the same. As a result of the studies that lasted for 3 years, the wreckage of the plane and its passengers could not be reached.
