Artist Gordon Pembridge, born in Kenya and now living in picturesque New Zealand, was fortunate enough to form a lifelong bond with nature, which often became the main inspiration for his work. As a painter and woodworker, Pembridge incorporates elements of natural history and depictions of local wildlife into her wooden pots that often contain flora and fauna from her favorite destinations, Africa and Oceania.
Every work of his wooden boat is made entirely of wood. To create a piece like the images, Pembridge first needs to shape the wood into her desired shape, then meticulously carve the wood into ornate, fern-like patterns by hand. Finally, she gives the finishing touch by painting and embellishing with leaves, animals and other natural motifs.
