The Orion Nebula is the nearest major star birth region, located 1500 light years from Earth. Hundreds of stars are either forming or in the early stages of life in this nebula - and planetary systems are forming around some of these stars!
It's a busy place and a frequent target for both Hubble and amateur astronomers. This #HubbleClassic image is a mosaic of 15 separate images taken by the telescope.
