As Halloween approaches, some are claiming to have seen a sinister witch figure in an image shared by the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) in 2015. Astronomers say the billowing clouds of the Witch's Head Nebula are lit only by the light emitted by massive stars. When starlight hits the dust particles in these clouds, it creates an infrared glow that can be captured by survey missions like WISE and turned into creepy images like this one.

A trail of green gas stretches down and to the right across a background of glowing blue stars. The center of the nebula is shaped to look like it has a long nose and prominent chin, which could be said to resemble a witch.
