On the night of 30 March, Comet Pons-Brooks was prominently observed over the western horizon of Lake June in the Northern Hemisphere. In the telescopic field of view, Alpha Arietis, the bright yellowish Hamal star, was also visible, along with a diffuse ion tail and a diffuse greenish coma. Now, however, Pons-Brooks is reported to be moving away from the northern night, heading towards the sunset on 21 April. On 8 April, the comet will still be visible in the daytime sky.
But to observe this spectacular sight, you will need to follow the path of totality and keep your eyes away from the bright Sun and the solar corona.
Will we be able to watch it?
