In this Spitzer Space Telescope image, we can see a cloud of gas and dust that is full of bubbles. These bubbles are inflating dense clouds of gas and dust containing young, massive stars. Streams of particles and light emitted by the stars push the surrounding material outwards, creating the distinct boundaries of the bubbles. Based on similar bubbles, astronomers estimate that these bubbles are 10 to 30 light-years across.
The image shows two nebular clouds in green, yellow and red tones. One of these clouds appears to extend from the lower left of the image to the centre. Its upper end has a bright white spot and a translucent green cloud can be seen in the lower left. On the lower right is an intense green cloud cluster, leaving a thin band of black sky between the two nebulae.
There is also an animated version with yellow circles and ovals outlining more than 30 bubbles at the top of the image.
