“The human mind is always developing, but this development is in spirals. Madame De Stael”
Have you ever noticed that you start spiraling while talking on the phone, lost in thought, or bored in a meeting... Most people spiral at some point or another. What is the meaning of the spiral, why have we given so much importance as humanity?
The spiral is almost one of the oldest symbols, from cave drawings to modern symbolism, the secret of nature and the universe is conveyed by spirals.
The spiral symbolizes growth and development outward from a center, that is, a point. That dot symbolizes creation, and the spiral's growth and growth symbolizes progress. In ancient societies, the masculine principle that started the movement first (God in myths) and the feminine principle that kept it moving (the Goddess in myths) were described in ancient societies. That is, it is the basic sacred symbol of creation and development. In fact, this is the symbolic representation of the masculine and feminine principle working together.
After the first creation, the feminine energy transforms and evolves it, which is why one of the most ancient symbols is the spiral. The fact that development and growth occur in circles tells about the basic nature of feminine energy. This flexibility and harmony is the basic principle of feminine energy. Feminine energy is flexible, changeable, and evolving. That is why development and vibrations do not occur in straight lines, but in spirals.
It is the cycle of nature, the cycle of the stars, the cycle of the milky way, and ultimately the cycle of birth-death and rebirth of human life.
To move (or walk in) a spiral ceremonially means to regenerate the energy of creation. It balances the energy and awakens the masculine principle first and then reveals the feminine principle. The spiral going from outside to inside and inside out represents a different energetic balance (focusing or dispersal of energy). Therefore, spiral dances were among the most common ritual dances in archaic times. It is a kind of re-creation of the infinite cycle of the universe and the instinct to become one with the universe. For example, the Grimm brothers' tale of 12 dancing princesses is an example of this future. 12 is the number of constellations and 12 princesses is the cycle of constellations in the universe. What the ancients called wheel of fortune is the rotation of the wheel in the sky. The masculine character who discovers them finds himself in the tale in the feminine mystery and gets involved in it.
Another meaning is the symbol of turning inward or turning outward. This is why we unknowingly draw a lot of spirals while thinking, searching for a way. It represents seeking answers with introversion and finding it and coming back to the outside world. In fairy tales, we come across as the character goes up or down a spiral staircase. It is the symbol of the unconscious, inward journey.
In general, in the archaic periods, in addition to the spirals in cave drawings, seashells with spirals were also widely used as jewelry. This considered the spiral in relation to water and aquatic creatures. It is also one of the symbols of being connected with emotions, intuitions, and the powers of water.
In some traditions we can see the triple spiral (especially in Celtic culture) very often, here too it symbolizes a trinity and the three faces of the Goddess and is one of the symbols of the endless cycle. It is the trinity of death-life and birth.
